about

Wrote this one to the "Lemon Pepper Freestyle" beat back when everybody was hopping on it, barring out, and then dropping videos on social media of them spitting. I got caught up in the hype and wanted to give it my Claud Six twist.

After getting about 40 bars in, I realized that I liked what I was writing too much to just drop it on somebody else's beat which meant I couldn't really release it. So, I sat down one night, knocked out an instrumental, and added about 20 or more bars to it. When I was going over the verse at one point, I took the drums out, and I loved the bare feeling of it all. It really helped me focus on the lyrics, and for me, that was the most important part of this track.

This is what I would like to call a "Check-In Song", meaning it's me just being like, "Here's an update of my last couple months. No hook. No singing. Just raps and observations."

Also, in true Lucas Dix/Claud Six/Jellyfish Brigade/BCxLD fashion, I started the verse on some "let me just show everybody how dope of a spitter I am" and finished the song by talking about how pretty the sunset over the river is. It's just what I do I suppose.

Much love, folks.
New Claud Six album and new Jellyfish Brigade EP and album in the next year.

Peace.

lyrics

My heart is iridescent
Mind is doing math on the mirror and checkin clearer lessons
The peer reviews have got me focused like a weird obsession
Keep it moving cause a hero never fears a legend
Eluding booby traps, rolling like a movie cast
Looking through viewing glass, tripping with my stupid ass
Collect the scratch from the camps and the music apps
And donate it cause I know some people who could use the cash
Yeah, I know this shit is bigger than me
That’s why I listen to the mission when I’m getting ready
Heavy rain cloud around following us
Rose city, all worth it when the flowers come up, yup
Let me get an order of some garlic parm
A glass of water and a moment for some R&R
Backyard busy, I’m planting my little garden starts
Sprinkling the seeds is the new way I party hard
Wifey got some milkweed in hopes of butterflies
I turned a plum tree to a homemade jug of wine
Strawberry plants bout to grow another vine
We fall asleep to some coyote lullabies
Yeah, I ain’t ya normal spitter, go and getter
But I ain’t about to hoard the dinner for the winter
People starving when our buckets are bottomless
When Elon’s dropping millis to blow up another rocket ship
Web wove me to a cynical man
The news cycle got me imagining criminal plans
System blaming woes on individual’s hands
And I got homey’s out here copping plots of digital land
I mean, damn, hell are you supposed to do?
Rap on a Drake beat in hopes someone will notice you?
I’m a 35 year old teacher leading the reading group
Tryna keep it so these students hold onto a dream or two
With everything the way it is, it isn’t easy
So I stayed a few hours late and did it freely
I’m at the store, and the families and kids’ll greet me
My city need me, they love me like I'm Mr. Feeny
Kiwi colored J’s on, belly keeping the weight on
Play how I practice, and I practice like it’s game on
In the parking lot, calling the homey like Draymond
Telling him to bring a couple stories to the seance
I’m on my side mission stacking the free lives
Getting mad like a magical feline
The bloodiest hands are the ones packaging peace signs
This shit ain’t broke, it’s systematically designed
Can’t beat ‘em, so let’s join ‘em
New form of money pump the same ol’ poison
Celebrate saying I, hate in the third person
Fight fire with fire the all the while the earth’s burning
I done turned into a person who I don’t quite recognize
Love to the fam and friends who know my better side
Wanna see the world before both eyes mechanize
Already feels like my whole life’s technified
Wise man once said wise men are unicorns
Only taking breaths within the lines of the troubadours
The wars coming home
Swivel headed checking overlords and the drones
Chicken little Luda with a helmet for the sky
If you wanna land here, I would welcome and oblige
I was riding shotgun, south side of the river
So dope, I ain’t even try for a picture
It never turns out the way I envisioned it
I might be a genius, I’m prolly an idiot
Making mess, I’d like to think I’m making a difference
But I’ll take what I get and embrace every bit of it
