When I was a little lily pad lad, my grandma and grandpa lived on a lake. In the midwest, it seems like everybody you know knows somebody who has shoreline access to one of the many watering holes speckled across the map. We’d head out to grandma and grandpa’s spot to swim, fish, ride the pontoon boat, water ski, catch soft-shelled turtles, and spend time as a family. At some point, my grandparents sold the house to my uncle, and he had a family, and the tradition continued. On sunny summer Sundays or frigid ice skating Saturdays, we’d take the thirty minute drive west to play until the crepuscular sky told us it was time to leave.

Since then I’ve moved out to the Pacific Northwest, and I’ve made multiple cross country trips where one of the main objectives was to locate new bodies of water to visit. The lake became a destination after a many mile hike or a detour in a state I’d never stepped foot in. A lot of these travels happened while exploring the unknown with my friends who were also searching for something or while I was falling in love and finding a future with my wife.

My cousin Jarad grew up on the lake in my uncle’s house, and he mastered the life of aquanaut shows, installing piers, hooking worms, and shoveling seaweed. After college, he also moved out west and began to dive into beatmaking. Naturally, we discussed creating art that sounded like a family affair, and the theme of it seemed rather obvious to the both of us.

On Friday, June 23rd, me and my cousin (otherwise known as Claud Six and jayrad) will be sharing our new album titled Lake Lovers Club (Stories from the Shore). It’s 16 tracks of tales from the banks of Oregon to Wisconsin to Louisiana to New York and a bunch of places in between. We hope it sounds like families teaching little ones to float on their back or the buzzing of dragonflies as they shoot ripples across the surface of a lake in the middle of a forest because that’s what it feels like to us.

So crack a beverage of your choice, sink your toes into the sand or pebbles, feel the sun kiss your SPF covered skin, and let us tell you some stories from the shore.
